Best way to communicate with a common sense person? After my divorce I moved back home with my dad.?

I have a B.A. in science,and work at a local outfit as a tester. My dad doesn't even have 1 college credit to his name. It's hard to talk to someone when it seems like they can not relate on one thing, no matter what it is.
