MLA In-text citation question?

When doing in-text citations in an essay, I know that you have to include the author and page number of the book, in parentheses, after the sentence containing a quote from said book. My question is, when you are writing a sentence, and you use information from the book without an actual quote in the sentence, do you have to put the author and page number after it? You are using the information, but not directly quoting it. Any input appreciated.
